After the sun goes down, but before dark settles in, the golden hour glow falls upon Florence, the night cools the city from the heat of the day, and people begin to emerge from their afternoon reprieves. Street musicians set up on corners, artists and street vendors set their work back out for sell, and Florentines and tourists begin to fill up restaurants, busses, and tourist spots.

To see the daily evolution from sleepy, hot, summer town to a bustling, vibrant, you need only get to Piazza Michaelanglo before 5pm. Around that time the sun is still hot and the tourist are thinned out. Pick a place so sit (bring a lawn chair or blanket) and watch the plaza fill up with people from all over the world.

Spend some time enjoying the sunset, but don’t forget to talk to the people around, enjoy a bottle of wine with your friends, and and join in with the street musician! It’s a beautiful way to spend an evening in Florence – and inexpensive, too!
