I don’t know about you guys – but around here we like to do it right! And I mean it – if we are gonna start a home renovation project – we like to start from the roots up!

Or rather. That’s just how it seems to go…

I got home from Michigan and noticed that there was a patch of grass in the front yard that was brighter, greener, thicker, taller…and wetter….than everywhere else. I asked Royce about it. He told me that he thought we might have a water leak. Which immediately explained why our water bill doubled last month. He said it was from watering the grass more – but we’ve been here 2 years and the bill literally went from $35 to $70. We rarely pay more than $35/month for water.

Turns out – it’s the main water line that’s busted and it runs right underneath the big oak tree in the front yard. Can’t cut the line out b/c it’s encased in tree roots – so we have to dig around the roots – cut the line and run a new line instead.

The trench Royce dug last night just to find the line. It's actually 4 feet deep and about 3' long - and by this morning it was 2/3rds full of water....

I say “WE” loosely – but we all know it’s really ROYCE that is doing all the digging of the dirt, cutting of tree roots, and gluing of PVC line to restore law and order to our water supply and thus our water bill. But it was his choice. He could have paid the plumber $800+ just to dig the trenches. He opted to be “Green” (get it – he’s saving our natural resources) and do the hard labor himself!!

Once that is done we are going to patch up the front yard – and then gut the hall bathroom. But we had to start from the roots and go up! I don’t think we have ever enjoyed simple home improvement projects. They always start out as major projects that inspire us to greatness…. LOL! No, seriously – we were going to gut the hall bathroom in August and get it cleaned up and renovated anyway – it’s just funny that we have to replace plumbing lines outside before we can get the inside even started!! That’s just how it goes around these here parts.

Check it out!! There's Royce all excited about digging in the dirt! And there's the children off in the corner watching! Oh how cute! A squirrel in the tree is checking out the project and some wood ducks are coming over to perhaps set up home in what they think is a new lake. Better watch out for the MEAN OL' Alligator comin' from the back lot....

Lesson #102,938,210 in house buying. Just don’t. Just build a new one. Save a little more and just build a new one. From a good builder.
