I did it. I booked the ticket. That means I’m totally committed.
*big deep breath*
I am going to Michigan!!! For TWO WHOLE WEEKS!! In JULY!
I volunteered to be a chaperone at a two week long ballet summer intensive put on by the Cecchetti Council of America. It’s kind of an expensive camp, but because I volunteered to be a chaperone – the Council is paying all my room and board. I just had to pay for my flight up to Michigan and back. I will have to “work” while I’m there by supervising students during the camp – but I will have free time blocked out to take the master classes that I want to attend. And I will have down time for myself too.
The camp is at Hope College, in Michigan, and the college itself is only a 5 minute walk from the shores of Lake Michigan. I can’t think of a better reprieve from the stress of the past year than a semi-sabattical. July is a significant month for me.
So anyway, I just did it. Wow. That was a lot of money to spend on one airplane ticket for one person….for me.
I am not exactly sure what we’ll do with the children while I’m gone for 2 weeks – but it will work out. This is the only summer that I think I’ll be able to make the trip for the next 3-4 years. Once I start back to school in the fall, I am planning on working straight through until I get that darn piece of paper – including summers – so the opportunity presented itself and Royce said to go for it – so … adios amigos!
I’ve never been so far away from my kids for so long before.
To tell you the truth – I’m really excited about it. Yes, a little bit nervous – but mostly excited. This is a really great opportunity. I’m so thankful for a supportive husband!
