From THE PILOT’S WIFE by Anita Shreve:
“It’s awful,” Julia said,”Kathryn, I know it’s awful. Look at me. But the only way to the other side is through it. You know that, don’t you? Nod your head.”
Julia, the old great-grandmother
speaking to Kathryn, her grand-daughter,
the night Kathryn’s husband dies in a horrible airplane accident.
I love the part I emphasized. The only way to the other side of the horrible experience of NOW is to walk through it. Whatever that proverbial “now” might be for you or me – the statement is so true. You can’t live in denial about where you are in life. You can’t worry about what may come or what has happened – but you do have to find a way to have peace in your life – no matter your circumstances – so you can keep walking through IT…that is…life.
It’s the only option. Well…the other “option” is death and that’s not an option.
And of course there are lots of anti*depressants, anti-anxiety and anti-psychotic medications now to help us out as well. HAHAHAHA!!
BUT seriously now…. That sentence made me think of Hebrews 12:1-2:
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
