This week the kids have been participating in the Vacation Bible School hosted by the First Baptist Church of Universal City. (Our church doesn’t have VBS or any kind of children’s ministry.) We participated last year and the kidshave eagerly awaited VBS again this year. This year, though, FBC was putting on a “VBS in your Neighborhood” program. They actually ran the entire VBS program in different parks around our area of town. (Universal City, Schertz, Live Oak, etc). So of course, I was thrilled to find out that I didn’t even have to drive anywhere. We are within walking distance of the park!
The program this year was fantastic. Not only was it in my backyard (figuratively speaking) but they let Hannah and Claire stay as well, they kept all the kids together (no class rooms this year!) they had Bible story time and learned a few songs, of which even Claire tries to sing! They also did crafts. The kids had a great time and made some new friends. And I appreciated the fact that there was a wide age range of helpers – from the 12 yr olds all the way to the 70+yr olds! It trully blessed my heart to see older gentlemen gathered around park tables helping VBS participants assemble airplanes! Now THIS is truly a multigenerational blessing!
Here are Adri and Ean with the model airplanes they built. We just have to get some paint and finish it up. And here’s Hannah with her new friend, Arianna, who she clung to all week. Thanks, Arianna, for being such a good friend to Hannah! And then there’s Claire – being cute, as usual!
